Which Type of Strap-on Harness is Best for Pegging?

Which Type of Strap-on Harness is Best for Pegging?

A good dildo harness needs to be one that adjusts to the curves of your hips and bottom, it needs to be tight enough to keep the dildo firmly in place, yet flexible enough to give you freedom of movement.

Your choice of material is really a matter of personal taste and of course budget. Leather has long since set the standard for dildo harnesses, vegans could consider vinyl, and for those latex fetisists there are,of course, rubber harnesses – these later materials are waterproof so they’re ideal for fun in the shower too!

Some designs that have been on the market for a few years use much more soft materials, they’re more attractive and can be worn under every day clothing without being particularly noticed – these are one of our favourite designs – they’re designed by SpareParts and available from LoveHoney in the UK and The Stockroom in the States.

A good “First Time Buy” Is the Bend Over Kit from Tantus the harness which is adjustable and comes equipped with with two colour coordinating dildos (of different lengths and widths). It’s a nice price too, not overly expensive.

Those to avoid: There are strap-on harnesses designed with an elasticated waist band with dildos already attached, these are not really suited to pegging because their elasticity is quite quickly lost resulting in poor dildo control.

Which type of Dildo is best for pegging?

Material:
For any form of anal play it’s absolutely essential that the dildo has no sharp edges and that it’s not too hard. This is particularly important for the first time anal penetration experience, so that means no dildos made of hard plastic, glass, metal or wood (yes there are wooden dildos out there – just imagine the splinters!)

Specifically for pegging your dildo should be firm (but not hard) and flexible. So materials such as silicone, jelly (rubber) and “SafeSkin” (also a type of rubber) are the best. Silicone is the most expensive of these materials but it is far more hygienic, you won’t get anaphylactic shock (as you might with latex/rubber products), it has no odour and of course it’s got none of those naughty phthalates.

Length: It Does Matter!
Dildos that are slightly longer than average are best for anal play and strap-on pegging, this is because about 20 mm or so of the dildo’s available length is taken up when you put it in the harness, it then needs to pass the cheeks of your lover’s bottom, leaving a bit less for penetration. Also a longer length is nice for rhythmic hip movements, you can get into a nice steady pace of thrusting without worrying that the dildo may slip out of your partner.

Shape and Design Features:
Penis shaped dildos are best for strap-on fun, particularly those with a nice realistic size shaft and a well sculpted head/glans. A good pegging dildo will have a flared base to ensure the harness can support and hold it. Dildos with a shaft that’s a little thinner than average are perfect for comfortable anal penetration. Dildos with balls are okay, but the weight and balance of the balls can sometimes be a bit more difficult to control, unless it’s been specifically designed so that the balls hang outside the dildo harness. photo needed here!

Strap-on Double Dildos:
Strap-on Double dildos such as the very popular Feeldoe range give double pleasure, meaning that you’re both penetrated at the same time. Some women say that “double ended dildos” give them a more realistic sensation of having a cock. Some women are able to wear the feeldoe without a harness by using their pelvic muscles to hold the toy inplace but many say they work better with the additional support of a dildo harness. If you’re considering the Feeldoe we’d recommend the blue slim version for first time anal play. Find out more from LoveHoney or the Stockroom

Which type of Lubricant is best for anal penetration?

In part this is determined by your dildo and what material it’s made of:
If you have a silicone dildo a good quality water based lubricant is the best, because it won’t harm the silicone.
If you have a rubber toy or dildo harness a silicone based lubricant is ideal or you could use water based too, but don’t use an oil based product such a Crisco or Baby Oil as this will over time dissolve the latex in the rubber.
In general terms a water based lubricant will be ideal for any dildo, whatever material it is made of.
HOWEVER . . . water based lubricants are considered too runny for anal play. It wears off quickly and needs to be replaced often. Best for anal play is a silicone lube, it gives more slip and slide, and because it’s thicker than water based lubricant it cushions your lover’s thrusts more.
There are also “anal lubricants” specially formulated for Anal Penetration but you need to check whether they are water or silicone based.
In answer to this water based versus silicone based dilemma there are now companies making “Toy Lubes” containing silicone, having a far better consistency than water based lubricant, that can be used on any sex toy, no matter what it’s made of – including silicone.
